Money in the Greek cities of Histria, Tomis and Callatis. Images and archaeological context

Temporary exhibition

Between September 2023 and March 2024, the National Bank of Romania organises a temporary exhibition entitled “Money in the Greek cities of Histria, Tomis and Callatis. Images and archaeological context”.

This section serves as a complement to the temporary exhibition “The two sides of the coin: means of exchange – masterpieces of art” arranged by Alpha Bank in partnership with the National Bank of Romania. Its purpose is to provide visitors with an as accurate as possible insight into the civilisation of ancient Greeks and how it influenced even the lives of our ancestors.

Visitors to the NBR Museum will have the opportunity to admire, alongside the coins issued by these cities and part of our heritage, a host of artefacts provided by the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy and the National History and Archaeology Museum of Constanța. These artefacts include ceramic vessels, figurines, inscriptions, statues, and jewellry.

The exhibition is open from 22 September 2023 until the beginning of March 2024 and can be visited on the free guided tours of the NBR Museum, which take place Mondays to Fridays, by prior appointment.
