"An educated social environment translates into a better transmission of the monetary policy. The Romanian economy is to be the winner of this initiative meant to unlock channels which currently seem blocked, but in fact were never created."
Mugur Isărescu
From 3 May to 7 June 2018, the National Bank of Romania organises, in partnership with Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, under the aegis of “Academica BNR”, a series of seminars for both economists and non economists that are members of the academia.
A direct dialogue between the NBR professionals and the participants (teaching staff and doctoral students of the university) will serve as a means to address financial topics, conceptual clarifications of present-day banking phenomena and the matching between the curricula of economic and non-economic higher education system and current labour market needs.
Discussions will focus on issues relating to central banking, financial stability, euro adoption, payment systems, cryptocurrencies, macroprudential policies, human resources and communication.
Mrs Ágnes Nagy, an NBR Board member, opened the series of seminars targeting members of the academia with an economic background at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași on Thursday, 3 May 2018. Her address was aimed at the importance of financial stability for an economy and the strategy of macroprudential policy, whose framework allows for putting in place a stable system for financial intermediation and thus helps achieve lasting economic growth.
Furthermore, Mrs Nagy, a Ph.D. and Senior Lecturer, gave a brief overview of the institutions and bodies designed to safeguard financial stability, special mention deserving the National Committee for Macroprudential Oversight at local level and the European Systemic Risk Board at EU level.
The opening session of the seminars addressing non-economic members of the academia took place Wednesday, 9 May 2018, on the premises of the NBR’s regional branch in Iași. It featured the presentations delivered by Mrs Ágnes Nagy and Mr Ioan Muntean, Deputy Director of the Issue, Treasury and Cash Management Department.
Given the success of a debate forum organized in 2011, in a summer school format, the National Bank of Romania launches Academica NBR - its newest educational project in a series developed since 2012. Dedicated to professors and scholars, the program aims to expand the area of activities to professors’ level, thus recognizing their crucial importance in shaping future economists.
The partnership between NBR and several large universities in Romania will benefit from the valuable contribution of the Romanian Academy, and that of other Romanian financial institutions. This joint effort to improve financial literacy in Romania is meant to ensure the swift and sustainable development of the authentic skills needed by the Romanian economy.
