Banca Naţională a României and the European Central Bank jointly organised the second edition of the South-East European Conference on Market Infrastructure Integration and Development, on 30 September - 2 October 2009, in Bucharest. The first edition of this conference was held in 2005.
This edition focused primarily on the experiences of the Eurosystem, the participating central banks and the Banca Naţională a României in market infrastructure development and offered participants the opportunity to outline the upcoming challenges in this field.
Experts from the European Central Bank and nine central banks of South-Eastern European countries attended the event alongside representatives from the Banca Naţională a României, national Automatic Clearing House operator TRANSFOND S.A. and the Romanian Banking Association. Key speakers at the conference included Mrs. Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, Mr. Mugur Isărescu, Governor of the Banca Naţională a României and Mr. Jean-Michel Godeffroy, Chairman of the TARGET2-Securities Programme Board.
