The NBR’s statistical activity is carried out according to the provisions of Law no. 312/2004 on NBR Statute and Law no. 226/2009 on the organisation and functioning of official statistics in Romania - Romanian only.
As a member of the European System of Central Banks, the National Bank of Romania respects the Public commitment on European Statistics by the ESCB , which is governed by these principles: impartiality, professional independence, cost effectiveness, statistical confidentiality, non-excessive burden on respondents and commitment to quality.
The NBR’s main statistics include monetary and financial statistics, balance of payment statistics and international investment position statistics. The data quality is ensured by establishing a set of guidelines on how to measure domestic and external economic developments. These methodological standards comprise the Sixth Edition of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual – BPM6 and the European System of National and Regional Accounts of the European Union 2010 edition – ESA 2010, in order to maintain and improve consistency between external and domestic macroeconomic statistics and to ensure a systematic and detailed description of an economy.
