Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 2 November 2015, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 130 years since the birth of Mateiu I. Caragiale.
The coin has the following characteristics:

- Diameter: 37 mm
- Weight: 31.103 g
- Quality: proof
- Edge: milled
Obverse: a graphic composition inspired by Mateiu I. Caragiale’s novel Craii de Curtea-Veche, the year of issue “2015”, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value “10 lei” and the coat of arms of Romania.
Reverse: the portrait and the signature of Mateiu I. Caragiale, a drawing he made to illustrate the chapter Asfinţitul Crailor of his novel Craii de Curtea-Veche and the writer’s birth and death years, “1885” and “1936”.
The silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. They are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.
Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this numismatic issue is 250 coins.
The selling price is lei 310.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.
The silver coins dedicated to the anniversary of 130 years since the birth of Mateiu I. Caragiale are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
