Gold coin dedicated to the anniversary of 140 years since the laying of the cornerstone of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bucharest

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 7 December 2015, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin dedicated to the anniversary of 140 years since the laying of the cornerstone of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bucharest.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: 200 lei;
  • Metal: gold;
  • Fineness: 999‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 27 mm;
  • Weight: 15.5510 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: plain.

Obverse: the image of St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bucharest, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “200 Lei”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue, “2015”.

Reverse: an image from inside St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bucharest, the inscription “CATEDRALA SF. IOSIF - BUCURESTI” in an arc and the year of the laying of the cornerstone, “1875”.

The gold coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. They are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 150 coins.

The selling price is lei 3,400.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet.

The gold coins dedicated to the anniversary of 140 years since the laying of the cornerstone of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bucharest are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The gold coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
