Numismatic issue: 150 years since the birth of Grigore Antipa

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 4 December 2017, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin to mark 150 years since the birth of Grigore Antipa.
The coin has the following characteristics:
- Face value: Leu 100
- Metal: gold
- Fineness: 900‰
- Shape: round
- Diameter: 21 mm
- Weight: 6.452 g
- Quality: proof
- Edge: milled
Obverse: an epoch image of the “Grigore Antipa” Museum, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2017”.
Reverse: the portrait of Grigore Antipa, the inscription “GRIGORE ANTIPA” in an arc and his birth and death years, “1867” and “1944” respectively.
The gold coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this issue is 250 coppered tombac coins.
The selling price is lei 1,680.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet.
The gold coins marking 150 years since the birth of Grigore Antipa are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The gold coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
