Press release: NBR will put into circulation notes and coins with the new coat of arms of Romania

Pursuant to the provisions of Articles 14 and 17 of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania and of Law No. 146/2016 amending Law No. 102/1992 on the country’s coat of arms and seal, as of 1 January 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation notes and coins with the new coat of arms of Romania.
The new banknotes will have “1 ianuarie 2018” printed on the obverse.
All the other graphic elements of notes and coins with the new coat of arms, their characteristics and the security features of banknotes with the new coat of arms will be the same as those of banknotes and coins in circulation.
The new notes and coins will be rolled out gradually, depending on the real needs of monetary circulation.
The banknotes and coins with the new coat of arms of Romania will circulate alongside those currently in circulation.
