Numismatic issue: 150 years since Ștefan Luchian’s birth

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 26 February 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to 150 years since Ștefan Luchian’s birth.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: 10 lei;
  • Metal: silver;
  • Fineness: 999‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 37 mm;
  • Weight: 31.103 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: a composition depicting two works by painter Ștefan Luchian: “Anemones” in the foreground, on an easel, and “Brebu Fountain” in the background; the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2018”.

Reverse: the self-portrait of Ștefan Luchian, the inscription “STEFAN LUCHIAN” and the painter’s birth and death years, “1868-1916”.

The silver coinss are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 200 silver coins.

The selling price is lei 375.00 , VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.

The silver coins dedicated to 150 years since Ștefan Luchian’s birth are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
