Numismatic issue: 330 years since the printing of the Bucharest Bible

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 16 April 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin to mark 330 years since the printing of the Bucharest Bible.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 100;
  • Metal: gold;
  • Fineness: 900‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 21 mm;
  • Weight: 6.452 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: the portrait of Prince Șerban Cantacuzino, who ordered the printing of the Bucharest Bible, and an excerpt from the Bible; the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value “100 Lei”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.

Reverse: the coat of arms of Șerban Cantacuzino printed inside the Bucharest Bible and the inscription “330 DE ANI DE LA TIPARIREA BIBLIEI DE LA BUCURESTI” in an arc.

The gold coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 250 gold coinss.

The selling price is lei 1,695.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet.

The gold coins marking 330 years since the printing of the Bucharest Bible are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The gold coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
