Numismatic issues dedicated to 200 years since Ion Ionescu de la Brad’s birth

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 25 June 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to 200 years since Ion Ionescu de la Brad’s birth.
The coin has the following characteristics:
- Face value: lei 10;
- Metal: silver;
- Fineness: 999‰;
- Shape: round;
- Diameter: 37 mm;
- Weight: 31.103 g;
- Quality: proof;
- Edge: milled.
Obverse: a vintage image of Academia Mihăileană (Michaelian Academy) where Ion Ionescu de la Brad was the first professor of agricultural sciences in the history of Romanian education, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.
Reverse: the portrait of Ion Ionescu de la Brad, the inscriptions “ION IONESCU DE LA BRAD” and his birth and death years, “1818-1891”.
The silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this issue is 200 silver coins.
The selling price is lei 360.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.
The silver coin dedicated to 200 years since Ion Ionescu de la Brad’s birth are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
