Numismatic issues dedicated to 150 years since the founding of the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 16 July 2018, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to 150 years since the founding of the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: 10 lei;
  • Metal: silver;
  • Fineness: 999‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 37 mm;
  • Weight: 31.103 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: milled

Obverse: an image of the Romanian Athenaeum, the current headquarters of the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2018”.

Reverse: a detail of the building of the Romanian Athenaeum; in a medallion, the portrait of the first director and conductor, the inscription “EDUARD WACHMANN” and his birth and death years, “1836-1908”; on the outer ring, the inscription “150 DE ANI DE LA INFIINTAREA FILARMONICII ROMANE DIN BUCURESTI”.

The silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this issue is 200 silver coins.

The selling price is lei 380.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.

The silver coins dedicated to 150 years since the founding of the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
