Numismatic issues dedicated to the anniversary of 90 years since the publication of the interwar novel Craii de Curtea-Veche (Old-Court Philanderers)

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 30 December 2019, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin to mark the anniversary of 90 years since the publication of the interwar novel Craii de Curtea-Veche (Old-Court Philanderers).

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Metal: gold;
  • Face value: lei 100;
  • Fineness: 900‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 21 mm;
  • Weight: 6.452 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: a composition depicting Bucharest during the age when the action of the novel Craii de Curtea-Veche takes place, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2019” and the face value “100 LEI”.

Reverse: the portrait and the name of the writer Mateiu Ion Caragiale, the circular inscription “CRAII DE CURTEA-VECHE” and the year when the novel was first published, “1929”.

The gold coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage of this issue is 250 gold coins.

The selling price is lei 1,945.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet.

The gold coins dedicated to the anniversary of 90 years since the publication of the interwar novel Craii de Curtea-Veche are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The gold coins dedicated to the anniversary of 90 years since the publication of the interwar novel Craii de Curtea-Veche will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
