Joint press release on the accreditation of the financial education course for teachers teaching the mandatory “Social education” subject to eighth graders
06.04.2021
The Ministry of Education, the National Bank of Romania, the Romanian Banking Association, the Romanian Banking Institute, the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Institute of Financial Studies have announced the accreditation of the single comprehensive course entitled “Economic and financial education for teachers”. The target group of this course consists of the secondary education teachers that teach “Social education” to eighth graders. Starting with the 2020-2021 school year, financial education, which is included in the “Social education” discipline, became a mandatory subject for eighth graders.
The Romanian Banking Institute (RBI), founded by the National Bank of Romania and the Romanian Banking Association, is the provider of the free-of-charge course accredited by the Ministry of Education, over a 4-year period, pursuant to Order No. 3559/2021 on the accreditation of continuous training programmes.
The institutions participating in this national initiative invite the secondary education teachers that teach “Social education” to eighth graders to register with the RBI starting April 2021, in compliance with the information published on the RBI website – www.ibr-rbi.ro. After graduating the 40-hour course, the teachers will earn 10 transferable professional credits. The trainers of the teaching staff are economics teachers. The training initiative has also been supported by the Bucharest School Inspectorate.
This public and private institutional initiative, whereby teachers are trained to teach notions of financial education, is a stepping stone for eighth graders to gain economic and financial knowledge and improve their financial behaviour.
The course is part of the financial education projects developed by the Ministry of Education, the National Bank of Romania, the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Romanian Banking Association, based on the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018. According to this agreement, joint activities are carried out in the field of financial education and with a view to developing the National Strategy for Financial Education.
