Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 25 October 2021, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a gold coin marking 100 years since the birth of King Michael I of Romania and a proof replica of the commemorative medal “Ardealul Nostru”.

Obverse: : the effigies of Kings Michael I and Ferdinand I and of Prince Michael the Brave, overlapped and facing left. The effigies are encircled by the engraved inscription written in capitals “ARDEALUL NOSTRU” and the years “1601 - 1918 - 1944”. The letter “R” (replica) is displayed on the lower right side.
Reverse: an eagle head (Romanian heraldry) is engraved in the middle, with the inscription “ROMANIA” in the lower part. It is surrounded by the coats of arms of the 11 counties in Northern Transylvania, regained in 1944.
The gold coins and the proof replicas of the commemorative medal “Ardealul Nostru” will be housed in transparent plastic capsules. The gold coins marking 100 years since the birth of King Michael I of Romania will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The proof replicas of the commemorative medal “Ardealul Nostru” will be accompanied by certificates of authenticity.
The maximum mintage of the gold coin is 1,000 coins and that of the proof replica is 10,000 pieces.
The selling prices are as follows:
- lei 11,600.00, VAT excluded, for the gold coin, including the presentation leaflet;
- lei 2,200.00 lei, VAT excluded, for the proof replica, including the certificate of authenticity.
The gold coins marking 100 years since the birth of King Michael I of Romania are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The gold coins marking 100 years since the birth of King Michael I of Romania and the proof replicas of the commemorative medal “Ardealul Nostru” will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara.
