Numismatic issues dedicated to 350 years since the birth of Ion Neculce

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting May 16.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 16 May 2022, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin to mark 350 years since the birth of Ion Neculce.

The coins have the following characteristics:

Revers

Obverse: a partial image of the Putna Monastery and the portrait of Prince Ștefan cel Mare, superimposed over a text extracted from the work of Ion Neculce “O samă de cuvinte”, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2022”.

Reverse: a hand writing with a quill, a fragment of the original text of the work “O samă de cuvinte” and the inscriptions “350 DE ANI DE LA NASTERE” and “ION NECULCE”.

The silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by certificates of authenticity bearing the signatures of the NBR Governor and the Chief Cashier, in Romanian, English and French.

The maximum mintage of this numismatic issue is 5,000 silver coins.

The selling price for the silver coin, including the certificate of authenticity, is lei 470.00, VAT excluded.

The silver coins dedicated to 350 years since the birth of Ion Neculce are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara.
