Numismatic issues dedicated to 100 years since the Alba Iulia Coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 31 October.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 31 October 2022, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a gold coin and a silver coin to mark 100 years since the Alba Iulia Coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria.

Obverse of the gold coin: reproduction of a vintage image of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “500 LEI” and the year of issue “2022”.

Obverse of the silver coin: reproduction of a vintage image of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2022”.

Reverse common to gold and silver coins: the portraits and signatures of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria, the circular inscription “INCORONAREA DE LA ALBA IULIA” and the latent inscription “100 ANI”.

The gold and silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue, as well as by certificates of authenticity, in Romanian, English and French. Each certificate of authenticity bears the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage of the gold coin is 1,000 coins, and the maximum mintage of the silver coin is 5,000 coins.

The selling price for the gold coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 14,100.00, VAT excluded, and the selling price for the silver coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 470.00, VAT excluded.

The gold and silver coins dedicated to 100 years since the Alba Iulia Coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
