Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 28 December.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 28 December 2022, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a gold coin to mark 100 years since the birth of Marin Preda and a silver coin to mark 50 years since Romania joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The gold coin marking 100 years since the birth of Marin Preda has the following specifications:

Obverse of the gold coin: a composition inspired by the novel “Moromeții” (The Moromete Family) by Marin Preda, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI”, the year of issue “2022” and the coat of arms of Romania.

Reverse of the gold coin: the portrait and signature of Marin Preda and the inscription “100 DE ANI DE LA NASTEREA LUI MARIN PREDA” in an arc.

The silver coin marking 50 years since Romania joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank has the following specifications:

Obverse of the silver coin: the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2022”.

Reverse of the silver coin: the logos of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and the inscriptions “ADERAREA ROMANIEI LA FONDUL MONETAR INTERNATIONAL SI BANCA MONDIALA” and “50 ANI”.

The gold and silver coins will be housed in transparent plastic capsules.

The gold coins dedicated to 100 years since the birth of Marin Preda will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue, as well as by certificates of authenticity, in Romanian, English and French.

The silver coins dedicated to 50 years since Romania joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank will be accompanied by certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French.

Each certificate of authenticity of the gold and silver coins bears the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage is 1,000 gold coins and 5,000 silver coins.

The selling prices are as follows:

  • lei 2,900.00, VAT excluded, for the gold coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity;
  • lei 480.00, VAT excluded, for the silver coin, including the certificate of authenticity.

The gold coins dedicated to 100 years since the birth of Marin Preda and the silver coins dedicated to 50 years since Romania joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The gold and silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
