Numismatic issue dedicated to Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 10 April 2023.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 10 April 2023, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a silver coin dedicated to Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture.

The coin has the following specifications:

Obverse
Reverse

Obverse: the steeples of the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palace of Culture in Timișoara, the coat of arms of Romania, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2023”.

Reverse: buildings in Unirii Square in Timișoara, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the city’s coat of arms and the inscriptions “TIMISOARA” and “CAPITALA EUROPEANA A CULTURII”.

The silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue, as well as by certificates of authenticity, in Romanian, English and French. Each certificate of authenticity bears the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage is 5,000 silver coins.

The selling price for the silver coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 460.00, VAT excluded.

The silver coins dedicated to Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
