Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Statistics Office by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 15 July 2009, the National Bank of Romania is to put into circulation for numismatic purposes a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Statistics Office by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza.

The silver coin has the following characteristics:

  • face value: lei 10;
  • purity: 999/1000;
  • weight: 31.103 g;
  • shape: round;
  • diameter: 37 mm;
  • quality: proof;
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: in the upper part, the logo of the National Institute of Statistics and a graphic composition suggesting the statistical activity in Romania, superposed by Romania's coat-of-arms; in the lower part, the inscription "ROMANIA", the year of issue - 2009 and the face value of the coin - 10 LEI.

Reverse: in the upper part, the image of the princely decree establishing the Central Office for Administrative Statistics, framed by the portraits of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the Prince who signed the act, and the economist Dionisie Pop Marţian, the first director of the Office; in the lower part, the inscription "150 DE ANI DE LA INFIINTAREA OFICIULUI DE STATISTICA" and the year of establishment - 1859.

Each coin is embedded in a transparent plastic capsule and is accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The coins will be displayed in appropriate cases having the NBR logo - BNR - inscribed on the lid, with silver foil.

The numismatic issue comprises 500 coins.

The selling price is of lei 180.00, VAT excluded (or lei 214.20, VAT included) and does not include the price of the cases.

The collector coins made of silver dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Statistics Office by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza are put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, and Timişoara.
