Numismatic issue dedicated to 125 years since the birth of George Matei Cantacuzino

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 5 August 2024.


As of 5 August 2024, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin to mark 125 years since the birth of George Matei Cantacuzino.

The coin has the following specifications:

Reverse

Obverse: Mogoșoaia Palace, in the restoration of which George Matei Cantacuzino participated, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI”, and the year of issue “2024”.

Reverse: the portrait and name of George Matei Cantacuzino, his birth and death years, “1899” and “1960”, and the inscription “125 DE ANI DE LA NASTERE”.

The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage is 5,000 silver coins.

The selling price for the silver coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 500.00, VAT excluded.

The silver coins to mark 125 years since the birth of George Matei Cantacuzino are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
