Balance of Payments in January - February 2005

January through February 2005, the balance-of-payments current account exhibited a deficit of EUR 516 million, i.e. 2.5 times higher than in the same year-ago period.

Medium- and long-term external debt1, at end-February 2005 amounted to EUR 19,096 million, up 7.9 percent against end-December 2004.

Public and publicly guaranteed external debt came in at EUR 10,433 million at end-February 2005, accounting for 54.6 percent of medium- and long-term debt as compared to 56.7 percent at end-December 2004. Non-publicly guaranteed external debt equalled EUR 8,663 million at end-February 2005, up 13 percent against end-December 2004.
