The National Bank of Romania reminds the general public that 15 December 2000 is the deadline for changing the Lei 10,000 banknote issued in 1994.
The National Bank of Romania requires the economic agents to share in the smooth completion of this undertaking, by collecting the 1994 issue of Lei 10,000 notes from individuals and handing them over to the bank branches where the economic agents have their current accounts. They should not put the banknotes back into circulation by making payments or giving change.
After 15 December 2000, this banknote shall no longer be legal tender, therefore it shall no longer be used as a legal means of payment. Banks shall no longer accept this banknote from individuals and they shall no longer change it.
