Balance of Payments in January - March 2003

At end-March 2003, the balance-of-payments current account showed a deficit of USD 170 million, down 31.2 percent from the same year-ago period.

Medium- and long-term external debt added 2.8 percent versus December 2002 and totalled USD 15,683 million at end-March 2003.

Public and publicly guaranteed external debt amounted to USD 9,739 million at end-March 2003, accounting for 62.1 percent of the medium- and long-term debt (against 62.6 percent at end-December 2002). In March 2003, external private debt increased by 4.3 percent to USD 5,945 million.
