Balance of Payments in January - February 2003

At end-February 2003, the balance of payments current account showed a deficit of USD 15 million, down 81.7 percent from the same year-ago period.

Medium- and long-term external debt went up 3.1 percent versus December 2002 and totalled USD 15,676 million at end-February 2003.

Public and publicly guaranteed debt amounted to USD 9,751 million at end-February 2003, accounting for 62.2 percent of the medium- and long-term debt (against 62.7 percent at end-December 2002). In February 2003, external private debt added 4.6 percent to USD 5,925 million.

At end-February 2003, medium- and long-term debt service ratio ran at 15.8 percent against 21.6 percent at end-2002.
