Numismatic issue - a gold coin dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi

In accordance with the prerogatives conferred upon by Law No. 101/1998, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, starting 15 March 2001, a gold coin with face value of Lei 5,000 dedicated to the "125th anniversary of the sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi".

Characteristics:

  • fineness: 999/1000;
  • quality: proof;
  • weight: 31.103 gr.;
  • diameter: 35 mm;
  • edge: flat;
  • year of issue: 2001.

Obverse: The Endless Column, a work by the sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi. Graphics splits the coin into two unequal areas. Centrally, on the left-hand side of the column, there is the Arms of Romania, with "2001" year-of-issue underneath. The uppercase writing "ROMANIA" is engraved around the coin. On the right, vertically, there is the face value of the coin "5000" and the Romanian currency "LEI".

Reverse: The bust of the sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi. Circularly, the inscriptions "CONSTANTIN BRÂNCUŞI" and the years marking the anniversary "1876 - 2001". The facsimile signature of the artist is engraved left to the portrait.

Mintage: 500 pieces for both domestic and international markets.

The gold coins are encapsulated in transparent plastic cases and have authentication certificates (in Romanian and English) signed both by the Governor of the National Bank of Romania and the First Teller, as well as a prospectus.

The above-described coin is legal tender in Romania. The design of this coin is protected by registration with the State Office of Trademarks (OSIM) in Romania. Forgery or counterfeiting of these coins is an infringement of the law and shall be punished accordingly.

The branches of the National Bank of Romania are in charge of putting into circulation the gold coins of Lei 5000 face value - year of issue 2001 - for numismatic purposes.
