The period for the payment of compensations by the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund for deposits held with Banca Comercială Albina, the first insolvent bank whose depositors were granted compensations by the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, has ended. According to the lists submitted by the liquidator of Banca Comercială Albina, the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund had to pay compensations to 33,528 depositors, natural persons.

Payment of compensations began on 15 July 1999 and ended on 14 July 2002 by law. The payments actually carried out totalled ROL 360,564,901,694 (accounting for 99.86 percent of total obligations), for a number of 24,461 depositors.

For 24,381 depositors, payments were made through Banca Româna pentru Dezvoltare during 15 July-17 September 1999 and amounted to ROL 360,185,065,253. According to the law, depositors could collect their compensations even after Banca Româna pentru Dezvoltare concluded making payments; during the second stage payments were made directly by the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund.
