Numismatic issue - a silver medal celebrating 80 years since the establishment of the Romanian School in Rome

The National Bank of Romania shall issue a new silver medal for numismatic purposes starting 29 November 2002. The medal marks "80 years since the establishment of the Romanian School in Rome".
Characteristics of the coins:
- shape: round;
- metal: silver;
- fineness: 999.9/1000;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 31.103 grams;
- edge: smooth;
- diameter: 37 mm; and
- year of issue: 2002.
The obverse includes the logo of "Accademia di Romania" in Rome. The years marking the anniversary of the establishment of Accademia di Romania, "1922" and "2002" respectively, are engraved on the top and bottom of the logo between two vegetal motives. The inscription "80 ANI DE LA FONDAREA SCOLII ROMANE DE LA ROMA" follows the edge of the medal and it is placed between two stylised accolades.
The reverse reproduces the front side of Accademia di Romania, an imposing building in the neo-classical style. The inscription "70 ANI DE LA INAUGURAREA PALATULUI ACADEMIEI" is circularly engraved in the upper part of the medal between two stylised accolades. The years "1932-2002" are mentioned beneath the aforesaid inscription. A vegetal motive is placed below these years. The inscription "INALTAT PRIN CONTRIBUTIA BANCII NATIONALE A ROMANIEI" is engraved on four lines beneath the reproduction of the palace, between two horizontal parallel lines.
The issue to be sold both on the domestic and the foreign market comprises 250 medals.
The branches of the National Bank of Romania are in charge of putting into circulation the silver medals. The medals shall be sold for ROL 475 thousand a piece.
Each medal is accompanied by an authentication certificate issued both in Romanian and English, and bearing the signature of the Governor of the National Bank of Romania.
The cost of capsules and authentication certificates is included in the above-mentioned price.
Each medal, encapsulated in transparent plastic cases, shall be sold in adequate boxes with the NBR logo on the cover. The boxes are not included in the price at which the medals are sold.
The design of the medals is protected by registration with the State Office of Trademarks in Romania. Forgery or counterfeiting of these medals is an infringement of the law and shall be penalised accordingly.
