Numismatic issue - a new set of coins including a silver-alloy medal celebrating 170 years since of Şuţu Palace

The National Bank of Romania, through its branches, will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a new set of coins starting 10 November 2003. Besides the coins issued after 1990, the set includes a silver-alloy medal celebrating 170 years since of Şuţu Palace was erected.
Characteristics of the medal:
- shape: round;
- metal: silver alloy,
- ineness: 800/1000;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 10 grams;
- edge: smooth;
- diameter: 28 mm.
Engraved on the obverse are the image of Şuţu Palace, the celebration years and the inscriptions "PALATUL ŞUŢU BUCUREŞTI 170 DE ANI DE LA RIDICARE", and on the reverse the goddess of Vidra and the inscriptions "MUZEUL MUNICIPIULUI BUCUREŞTI - ZEIŢA DE LA VIDRA". "The goddess of Vidra" is an anthropomorphic ritual vessel, illustrative for the neolitical civilisation, i.e to Gumelniţa culture, and belonging to the Bucharest Municipality Museum.
The 6-page booklet is inserted in a case and the 9 coins are affixed to pages 3-4. The first cover of both the set and the case features an oil painting by D. Segărceanu with the reproduction of Şuţu Palace. The last page shows the obverse and reverse of the medal along with a brief description of Bucharest Municipality Museum. The end cover of the case shows the image of the goddess of Vidra. Page 2 shows the obverse and reverse of a kosson, a rare numismatic piece discovered in the Sarmisegetuza area. Page 5 of the set contains a brief presentation of the features on the ROL 20, 50, 100 and 1,000 coins.
The issue of 10,000 coins is to be sold both on domestic and foreign markets, at the price of ROL 345,000 per set.
The design of the pieces is protected by registration with the State Office of Trademarks in Romania. Forgery or counterfeiting of these coins is an infringement of the law and shall be penalised accordingly.
