Numismatic issue - a set of coins dedicated to the celebration of 105 years from the start of building works at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest

The National Bank of Romania, through its branches in Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, Timişoara and Bucharest, will issue, for numismatic purposes, a set of coins - year of issue 2005 -, dedicated to the celebration of 105 years from the start of building works at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest. The set includes coins in circulation from both the old and new issues, with face value of 1 leu; 100 lei; 500 lei; 1,000 lei; 5,000 lei; 1 ban; 5 bani; 10 bani; and 50 bani. The set of coins will be launched on 1 August 2005.

The set also includes a silver medal with the following characteristics: fineness 800‰, weight 15.5 g and diameter 28 mm. The quality of both medal and coins is proof.

The obverse features the building of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" and the reverse shows the bust of Carol Davila, the founder of the Romanian school of medicine.

The set comes in a booklet placed in a container and the pieces are embedded in special slots.

The issue of 2,000 sets of numismatic coins is to be sold on domestic and foreign markets for RON 45 (ROL 450,000) per set, VAT not included.
