Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to 100 years from the birth of Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004-The NBR Act and Government Ordinance No. 45/1998, as approved by Law No. 244/1998, on vesting the National Bank of Romania with the power to put into circulation numismatic coins made of precious metals, the National Bank of Romania will issue starting 27 December 2005 a silver coin with face value of RON 5 dedicated to "100 Years from the Birth of Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic".
Features of the coin:

- metal: silver;
- fineness: 999/1000;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 31.103 grams;
- edge: flat;
- diameter: 37 mm.
Obverse: shows in the upper part the year of issue "2005", the inscription "ROMANIA" and the face value of "5 LEI". In the lower part, there are the masks of Comedy and Tragedy, the symbols of the theatre.
Reverse: features the bust of the actor Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic in a comedy role surrounded by the inscription "CENTENARUL NASTERII ACTORULUI GRIGORE VASILIU-BIRLIC". The years "1905" and "2005" are placed left from the actor's bust, one beneath the other.
The silver coins are encapsulated in transparent plastic cases and come with an authentication certificate in both Romanian and English, bearing the signature of both the Governor and the Head Cashier.
The issue consists in 150 coins priced at RON 100 (ROL 1,000,000) each. The cost of the capsule and that of the authentication certificate are included in the above-mentioned price.
The coins will be sold in adequate cases. The price does not include that of the case and the VAT (19 percent).
The silver coins in the issue "100 Years from the Birth of Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic" are legal tender in Romania.
The design of the coins is protected by registration with the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks in Romania. Forgery or counterfeiting of these coins is an infringement of the law and shall be penalised accordingly.
The silver coins "100 Years from the Birth of Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic" will be put into circulation for numismatic purposes through the NBR branches in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Timisoara.
