Visit of the Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mr. Mugur Isărescu to the Bank of Greece

On Tuesday, 6 June 2006, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mr. Mugur Isărescu visited the Bank of Greece and met with the Governor of the Bank of Greece Mr. Nicholas C. Garganas.
On this occasion, Mr. Isărescu gave a lecture on Romania: Economic and financial developments and EU. Mr. Isărescu analysed the Romanian macroeconomic performance in the past five years (high growth rates, declining inflation, reduction of fiscal deficit and public debt), as well as the monetary policy measures adopted with the aim to satisfy the criteria for EU accession. Besides Bank of Greece executives, the lecture was attended by presidents and executives of Greek commercial banks operating in Romania. Mr. Isărescu had also the opportunity to meet with officials of Greek commercial banks.
The Bank of Greece is especially interested in such meetings, given the prospect of a close relationship with the National Bank of Romania, with which it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on supervision of banks operating in the two countries.
