Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 concerning The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 30 July 2010, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hariclea Darclée.
The silver coin has the following characteristics:
- face value: leu 10;
- fineness: 999‰;
- shape: round;
- diameter: 37 mm;
- weight: 31.103 g;
- quality: proof;
- edge: milled;
- coinage: 1,000.
Obverse: in the foreground, a group of four spectators; in the background, the partial image of an opera theatre hall; to the left, above, the coat of arms of Romania and the inscription in an arc “ROMANIA”; to the right, the face value – “10 LEI”; below, the year of issue “2010”.
Reverse: in the foreground, the portrait of soprano Hariclea Darclée; in the background, a sequence of four pitches at the beginning of Vissi d’arte aria in Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca; above, the inscription “HARICLEA DARCLEE“; below, the years “1860” and “1939” and to the right the soprano’s signature.
The selling price for the collector coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hariclea Darclée is leu 200, excluding VAT.
Each coin is housed in a transparent plastic capsule and is accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The silver coins commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hariclea Darclée are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The collector coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
