Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to poet Grigore Alexandrescu

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 29 November 2010, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to poet Grigore Alexandrescu.
The silver coin has the following characteristics:
- Face value: lei 10
- Metal: silver
- Fineness: 999‰
- Shape: round
- Diameter: 37 mm
- Weight: 31.103 g
- Quality: proof
- Edge: milled
Obverse: in the middle, a graphic composition suggesting Grigore Alexandrescu’s poem titled Umbra lui Mircea. La Cozia (Mircea’s Shadow. At Cozia): the Cozia Monastery overlapping the portrait of ruling prince Mircea cel Bătrân (Mircea the Elder); to the left, the face value “10 LEI”; to the right, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2010”; in the lower part, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc.
Reverse: partially overlapping a circle, the portrait of Grigore Alexandrescu and some of the characters in his fables; in the upper part, the inscription “GRIGORE ALEXANDRESCU” in an arc.
The silver coin, housed in a transparent plastic case, will be accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The numismatic issue includes 1,000 coins.
The selling price of the silver coin in the numismatic issue dedicated to poet Grigore Alexandrescu is lei 230.00, excluding VAT.
The silver coins in this numismatic issue are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The collector silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
