Numismatic issue - set of three silver coins dedicated to the palaces of Bucharest: the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania, the Palace of Justice and the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 20 December 2010, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three silver coins dedicated to the following palaces of Bucharest: the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania, the Palace of Justice and the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange.

The silver coins have the following characteristics:

  • shape: round
  • diameter: 37 mm
  • fineness: 999‰
  • weight: 31.103 g
  • quality: proof
  • edge: milled

  1. The Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania
  2. Obverse: a detail on the façade of the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and Romania’s coat of arms; on the rim, “ROMANIA”, “PALATELE BUCURESTIULUI” and the year of issue “2010” inscribed in an arc.

    Reverse: in the middle, the image of the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania; up and down, two details of the interior decorations; on the rim, “PALATUL VECHI” and “BANCA NATIONALA A ROMANIEI” inscribed semi-circularly.

  3. The Palace of Justice
  4. Obverse: one of the statues on the façade of the Palace of Justice and a detail of the exterior decorations; the face value “10 LEI”, Romania’s coat of arms and the year of issue “2010”; on the rim, “PALATELE BUCURESTIULUI” and “ROMANIA” inscribed in an arc.

    Reverse: the inscription “PALATUL DE JUSTITIE”, the central part of the building and a detail of the roof decorations.

  5. The Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange
  6. Obverse: a detail of the roof decorations of the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange; the face value “10 LEI”, the year of issue “2010” and Romania’s coat of arms; on the rim, “ROMANIA” and “PALATELE BUCURESTIULUI” inscribed in an arc.

    Reverse: the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange and the group of statues on the building’s frontispiece; on the rim, “PALATUL CAMEREI DE COMERT SI INDUSTRIE SI AL BURSEI” inscribed circularly.

The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500 for each coin.

The selling price for the three silver coins making up the numismatic issue “The Palaces of Bucharest – the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania, the Palace of Justice and the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Stock Exchange – set of three silver coins” is lei 825.00, excluding VAT.

The silver coins included in the set of this numismatic issue are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The collector silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
