Numismatic issue - a set of three silver coins dedicated to the following monuments of medieval Christian art: Strei Church, Humor Monastery and Hurezi Monastery

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 concerning the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 28 February 2011, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three silver coins dedicated to the following monuments of medieval Christian art: Strei Church (Hunedoara county), Humor Monastery (Suceava county) and Hurezi Monastery (Vâlcea county).

The silver coins have the following characteristics:

  • Metal: silver
  • Face value: lei 10
  • Shape: round
  • Diameter: 37 mm
  • Fineness: 999‰
  • Weight: 31.103 g
  • Quality: proof
  • Edge: milled.

  1. Strei Church
  2. Obverse: image from the south-west of the Strei Church; to the left, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc and to the right Romania’s coat of arms, the year of issue “2011” and the face value of “10 LEI”.

    Reverse: image from the south-east of the Strei Church, partly inscribed in a circle and the inscriptions “MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA” and “BISERICA STREI”.

  3. Humor Monastery
  4. Obverse: the defence tower of the Humor Monastery and an image from the east of the monastery’s church overlapped by Romania’s coat of arms; in the upper part, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc and the face value of “10 LEI”; in the lower part to the left, the year of issue “2011”.

    Reverse: image from the south-west of the Humor Monastery, partly inscribed in a circle and the inscriptions “MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA” and “MANASTIREA HUMOR”.

  5. Hurezi Monastery
  6. Obverse: the kiosk of Dionysos and the chapel of the Hurezi Monastery, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value of “10 LEI”, Romania’s coat of arms and the year of issue “2011”.

    Reverse: the main church of the Hurezi Monastery, partly inscribed in a circle and the inscriptions “MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA” and “MANASTIREA HUREZI”.

Each set of silver coins, housed in transparent plastic cases, will be accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

This numismatic issue includes 500 sets.

The selling price of the set of three silver collector coins in the numismatic series “Monuments of Medieval Christian Art – Strei Church, Humor Monastery and Hurezi Monastery – set of three silver coins” is lei 900.00, excluding VAT.

The silver coins in this set are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The set of silver collector coins in the numismatic series “Monuments of Medieval Christian Art – Strei Church, Humor Monastery and Hurezi Monastery – set of three silver coins” will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
