Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to “The Coat of Arms of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia - the 150th Anniversary”

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 27 June 2011, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation a collector silver coin dedicated to “The Coat of Arms of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia – the 150th Anniversary”.
The silver coin has the following characteristics:
- face value: lei 10
- metal: silver
- fineness: 999‰
- shape: round
- diameter: 37 mm
- weight: 31.103 g
- quality: proof
- edge: milled.
Obverse: the portrait of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Romania’s coat of arms, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2011”; on the rim, the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” in an arc.
Reverse: two joint inescutcheons representing the coats of arms of the two Romanian principalities, Moldavia and Wallachia, are placed inside an escutcheon. The two inescutcheons are capped by a princely crown. On the rim, the circular inscription “STEMA PRINCIPATELOR UNITE MOLDOVA SI TARA ROMANEASCA” and the year “1861” in the exergue.
The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a brief presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.
Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500.
The selling price of the silver coin, including the leaflet, is lei 420.00 excluding VAT.
The silver coins in the numismatic issue “The Coat of Arms of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia – the 150th Anniversary” are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The collector silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
