Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to the 375th anniversary of Nicolae Milescu’s birth

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 31 October 2011, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation a collector silver coin dedicated to the 375th anniversary of Nicolae Milescu’s birth.
The silver coin has the following characteristics:
- face value: lei 10
- metal: silver
- fineness: 999‰
- shape: round
- diameter: 37 mm
- weight: 31.103 g
- quality: proof
- edge: milled.
Obverse: the image of an astrolabe, an instrument used in the past to guide travellers and a symbol of Milescu’s journeys, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2011” and the face value “10 LEI”.
Reverse: the portrait of Nicolae Milescu and the depiction of an old document, an ink pot and a quill; the circular inscription “375 DE ANI DE LA NASTEREA LUI NICOLAE MILESCU” and the years of birth and death: “1636‑1708”.
The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a brief presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.
Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500.
The selling price of the silver coin, including the leaflet, is lei 340.00 excluding VAT.
The silver coins in the numismatic issue dedicated to the 375th anniversary of Nicolae Milescu’s birth are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The collector silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
