At end-December 2012, non-government loans granted by credit institutions decreased by 1.4 percent (down 1.9 percent in real terms) from November 2012 to RON 225,874.3 million. RON-denominated loans edged up 0.1 percent (down 0.5 percent in real terms), whereas foreign currency-denominated loans fell by 2.2 percent when expressed in RON and by 0.5 percent when expressed in EUR. At end-December 2012, non-government loans climbed by 1.3 percent (down 3.5 percent in real terms) year on year, on the back of the 3.8 percent increase in RON-denominated loans (down 1.1 percent in real terms) and the 0.2 percent decline in foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON (when expressed in EUR, forex loans dropped 2.6 percent).

Government credit1 stood 1.0 percent higher in December 2012 at RON 78,863.8 million. At end-December 2012, government credit increased by 11.2 percent (6.0 percent in real terms) from end-December 2011.
Deposits of non-government resident customers went up 1.0 percent month on month to RON 197,294.4 million in December 2012.

RON-denominated household deposits decreased by 0.3 percent to RON 74,799.1 million. At end-December 2012, household deposits in domestic currency jumped 3.7 percent (down 1.1 percent in real terms) against end-December 2011.
RON-denominated corporate deposits (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) added 2.2 percent to RON 50,654.7 million. At end-December 2012, RON-denominated corporate deposits declined by 3.4 percent (down 7.9 percent in real terms) year on year.
Forex-denominated deposits of resident households and corporates (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) increased by 1.6 percent to RON 71,840.6 million when expressed in domestic currency (when expressed in EUR, forex deposits climbed by 2.7 percent to EUR 10,707.8 million). In year-on-year comparison, residents’ forex deposits expressed in RON advanced 14.5 percent (when expressed in EUR, residents’ forex deposits went up 11.7 percent); household forex deposits grew by 16.7 percent when expressed in domestic currency (when expressed in EUR, household forex deposits stood 13.8 percent higher) and forex deposits of corporates (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) rose by 10.5 percent when expressed in RON (when expressed in EUR, forex deposits of resident corporates expanded by 7.7 percent).
