National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a set of three silver coins dedicated to Cozia, Voroneţ and Brâncoveanu monasteries

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 20 October 2008, the National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a set of three silver coins dedicated to the Cozia, Voroneţ and Brâncoveanu Monasteries.

The silver coins have the following characteristics:

  • face value: LEI 10;
  • fineness: 999/1000;
  • weight: 31.103 g;
  • shape: round;
  • diameter: 37 mm;
  • quality: proof;
  • edge: milled;

I. The silver coin, with the face value of Lei 10, dedicated to the Cozia Monastery

Obverse: to the left, the portrait of ruler Mircea cel Bătrân, depicted as in the votive painting located inside the church of the Cozia Monastery and the inscription "MIRCEA CEL BATRAN"; to the right, from top to bottom, the inscription "ROMANIA", the year of issue 2008, Romania's coat of arms and the face value - 10 LEI.

Reverse: in the middle, the church of the Cozia Monastery; in the upper part, from left to right, the north chapel, the infirmary and the south chapel of the monastery; in the upper and lower parts respectively, the inscriptions "MANASTIREA COZIA" and "MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA".

II. The silver coin, with the face value of Lei 10, dedicated to the Voroneţ Monastery

Obverse: to the left, the portrait of ruler Ştefan cel Mare, depicted as in the votive painting located inside the church of the Voroneţ Monastery and the inscription "STEFAN CEL MARE"; to the right, from top to bottom, the inscription "ROMANIA", the year of issue 2008, Romania's coat of arms and the face value - 10 LEI.

Reverse: to the left the church and to the right the belfry and stone cross of the Voroneţ Monastery; in the upper and lower parts respectively, the inscriptions "MANASTIREA VORONET" and "MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA".

III. The silver coin, with the face value of Lei 10, dedicated to the Brâncoveanu Monastery

Obverse: to the left, the portrait of ruler Constantin Brâncoveanu, depicted as in the mosaic bordering the ruler's tombstone, located inside the Brâncoveanu Monastery at Sâmbăta de Sus and the inscription "CONSTANTIN BRANCOVEANU"; to the right, from top to bottom, the inscription "ROMANIA", the year of issue 2008, Romania's coat of arms and the face value - 10 LEI.

Reverse: to the left the church, in the upper part the xenodochium, and to the right the belfry of the Brâncoveanu Monastery; in the upper and lower parts respectively, the inscriptions "MONUMENTE DE ARTA MEDIEVALA CRESTINA" and "MANASTIREA BRANCOVEANU SAMBATA DE SUS".

The sets of silver coins in the numismatic issue dedicated to the Cozia, Voroneţ and Brâncoveanu Monasteries are embedded in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets in Romanian, English and French. The leaflets come with an authentication certificate bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The sets of silver coins will be displayed in appropriate cases having the NBR logo - BNR - inscribed on the lid.

The numismatic issue comprises 500 sets.

The sets of silver coins in the issue dedicated to the Cozia, Voroneţ and Brâncoveanu Monasteries are put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, and Timişoara.
