National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a set with the year of issue 2008

As from 29 September 2008, the National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a set with the year of issue 2008 comprising the Romanian coins in circulation - with face values of ban 1, 5, 10 and 50 - and a silver medal dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the building of "Grigore Antipa" Natural History Museum in Bucharest.

The silver medal has the following characteristics:

  • fineness: 800/1000;
  • weight: 15.5 g;
  • diameter: 28 mm;
  • edge: flat.

Obverse: two exhibits in the grand hall at the ground floor of the Natural History National Museum, i.e. the skeletons of Deinotherium Gigantissimum and Mammut Americanum, watched by a couple of visitors; above, the inscription "MUZEUL NATIONAL DE ISTORIE NATURALA "GRIGORE ANTIPA" BUCURESTI";

Reverse: the building of the Natural History National Museum, the portrait of the renowned scientist Grigore Antipa and the inscriptions "100 ANI DE LA INAUGURAREA SEDIULUI MUZEULUI 1908 - 2008" and "GRIGORE ANTIPA".

Both the medal and the coins are manufactured in proof conditions.

The set comes with a leaflet in a case, with specially-designed slots for each component.

The numismatic issue comprises 1,000 pieces.

The set is sold for RON 108.40 (VAT excluded).

The numismatic set with the year of issue 2008 is put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
