National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a silver coin dedicated to the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Simion Bărnuţiu

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 11 August 2008, the National Bank of Romania is to launch for numismatic purposes a silver coin dedicated to the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Simion Bărnuţiu.
The silver coin has the following characteristics:
- face value: LEI 10;
- fineness: 999/1000;
- weight: 31.103 g;
- shape: round;
- diameter: 37 mm;
- quality: proof;
- edge: milled.
Obverse: the depiction of a fragment from Costache Petrescu's painting Adunarea Naţională de la Blaj ("The National Assembly in Blaj"); overposed, the inscription "MAREA ADUNARE NATIONALA DE LA BLAJ - MAI 1848"; on the left side, the year of issue - 2008, vertically engraved, and in the upper part, the face value - 10 LEI; close to the edge, the circular inscription "ROMANIA" and on the right side, the coat of arms of Romania.
Reverse: the portrait of Simion Bărnuţiu; on the left side, the inscription "SIMION BARNUTIU" vertically engraved, below, the inscription "200 ANI DE LA NASTERE" and on the right side, the years 1808 and 1864.
Each coin is embedded in a transparent plastic capsule and is accompanied by a leaflet in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with an authentication certificate bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The coins will be displayed in appropriate cases having the NBR logo -BNR - inscribed on the lid.
The numismatic issue comprises 500 coins.
The collector coins made of silver in the issue dedicated to the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Simion Bărnuţiu are put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, and Timişoara.
