Numismatic issue: NBR launches for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of oil industry in Romania

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 3 September 2007, the National Bank of Romania is to launch, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of oil industry in Romania.

Characteristics of the silver coin:

  • face value: leu 10;
  • shape: round;
  • fineness: 999/1000;
  • quality: proof;
  • weight: 31.103 g;
  • diameter: 37 mm;
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: in the lower half, the image of "Mehedinţeanu" Refinery; above, Romania's coat of arms and the face value of "10 LEI"; on the outer ring, the circular inscriptions "ROMANIA" in the upper part and "RAFINARIA MEHEDINTEANU" in the lower part.

Reverse: on the right, a modern pump jack and the oblique engraving "150 ANI DE INDUSTRIE PETROLIERA ROMANEASCA"; on the left, a drilling well from the early 19th century and the years "1857 - 2007" inscribed circularly.

The coins come in transparent plastic capsules, along with leaflets describing the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet includes two pages representing the authentication certificate, bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The coins will be sold in appropriate cases bearing the NBR logo - BNR - on the lid.

The numismatic issue consists of 500 coins.

The National Bank of Romania branches in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara are in charge of putting into circulation, for numismatic purposes, the silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of oil industry in Romania.
