In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 2 July 2007, the National Bank of Romania is to launch, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin, a silver coin and a coppered tombac coin dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the enthronement of Ştefan cel Mare in Moldavia.
1. The gold coin has the following features:
- face value: leu 100;
- shape: round;
- purity: 900/1000;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 6.452 g;
- diameter: 21 mm;
- edge: milled.
Obverse: in the lower part, the entrance to Suceava, the-then capital city of Moldavia, and the inscriptions "CETATEA DE SCAUN A SUCEVEI" and "ROMANIA"; in the upper part, the face value of "100 LEI", Romania's coat of arms and the year of issue "2007".
Reverse: in the middle, the portrait of Ştefan cel Mare standing in front of the throne; on the outer ring, the circular inscriptions "550 ANI DE LA URCAREA PE TRON", "STEFAN CEL MARE" and the years in power "1457-1504".
2. The silver coin has the following features:
- face value: leu 5;
- shape: round;
- purity: 999/1000;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 15.55 g;
- diameter: 30 mm;
- edge: milled.
Obverse: in the lower part, the entrance to Suceava, the-then capital city of Moldavia, and the inscriptions "CETATEA DE SCAUN A SUCEVEI" and "ROMANIA"; in the upper part, the face value of "5 LEI", Romania's coat of arms and the year of issue "2007".
Reverse: in the middle, the portrait of Ştefan cel Mare standing in front of the throne; on the outer ring, the circular inscriptions "550 ANI DE LA URCAREA PE TRON", "STEFAN CEL MARE" and the years in power "1457-1504".
3. The coppered tombac coin has the following features:
- face value: leu 1;
- shape: round;
- quality: proof;
- weight: 23.50 g;
- diameter: 37 mm;
- edge: milled.
Obverse: in the lower part, the entrance to Suceava, the-then capital city of Moldavia, and the inscriptions "CETATEA DE SCAUN A SUCEVEI" and "ROMANIA"; in the upper part, the face value of "1 LEU", Romania's coat of arms and the year of issue "2007".
Reverse: in the middle, the portrait of Ştefan cel Mare standing in front of the throne; on the outer ring, the circular inscriptions "550 ANI DE LA URCAREA PE TRON", "STEFAN CEL MARE" and the years in power "1457-1504".
Every coin comes in a transparent plastic capsule, along with a brochure describing the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The brochure will be accompanied by an authentication certificate bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The coins will be presented in appropriate cases having the NBR logo - BNR - inscribed on the lid.
The mintage comprises a total of 750 coins, of which 250 pieces for the gold coin, 250 pieces for the silver coin, and 250 pieces for the coppered tombac coin.
The gold, silver and coppered tombac coins dedicated to Ştefan cel Mare are put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
