On Wednesday, 19 March 2008, the President of Romania, Mr. Traian Băsescu, visited the National Bank of Romania at the invitation of the NBR Governor, Mr. Mugur Isărescu. The President met with the NBR Board members, visited the NBR Treasury and Museum, and signed in the central bank's Book of Honour.
The meeting with the NBR Board members focused on strategic issues concerning the development of the Romanian economy amid the global financial market turmoil, as well as the major landmarks for Romania during the period preceding the euro adoption.
The President's visit to the NBR is part of a long-lasting tradition, considering that the central bank has been visited by Romanian heads of state ever since its establishment in 1880.
