Pursuant to the provisions of Law 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 30 June 2014, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, two coins (made of gold and silver) dedicated to the commemorative year of Saint Martyrs Brâncoveanu - St. George’s New Church in Bucharest, a place of worship built by order of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu.

Obverse of the gold coin: St. George’s New Church in Bucharest and the icons of three of its four patron saints: St. George, St. Parascheva of the Balkans and St. Nicholas, the oil lamp above the tomb of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu, which is inside the church, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2014” and the face value “100 LEI”; on the outer ring, the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “BISERICA SF.GHEORGHE NOU BUCURESTI”.
Obverse of the silver coin: St. George’s New Church in Bucharest and the icons of three of its four patron saints: St. George, St. Parascheva of the Balkans and St. Nicholas, the oil lamp above the tomb of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu, which is inside the church, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2014” and the face value “10 LEI”; on the outer ring, the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “BISERICA SF.GHEORGHE NOU BUCURESTI”.
Reverse (common to the two coins): the portraits of Saint Martyrs Brâncoveanu as depicted in the votive painting in St. George’s New Church in Bucharest, the commemorative year “1714”, on the inner ring, the inscriptions “SF.RADU SF.STEFAN SF.CONSTANTIN SFETNICUL IANACHE SF.MATEI” and “SF.VOIEVOD CONSTANTIN BRANCOVEANU”, and on the outer ring the inscription “SFINTII MARTIRI BRANCOVENI”.
The gold and silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. They are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this numismatic issue is: 250 gold coins and 250 silver coins.
Selling prices are:
- lei 1,520.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet;
- lei 310.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.
The gold and silver coins dedicated to the commemorative year of Saint Martyrs Brâncoveanu - St. George’s New Church in Bucharest, a place of worship built by order of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The gold and silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
