Numismatic issue dedicated to the 150th anniversary of architectural education in Romania

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 29 September 2014, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years of architectural education in Romania .

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 10
  • Metal: silver
  • Fineness: 999‰
  • Shape: round
  • Diameter: 37 mm
  • Weight: 31.103 g
  • Quality: proof
  • Edge: milled

Obverse: the portrait of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the initiator of architectural education in the Romanian Principalities, the face value “10 Lei” and the coat of arms of Romania; the inscriptions “ROMANIA”, “ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” and the year of issue “2014” in an arc.

Reverse: a detail of the Palace of “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, the oldest educational establishment of architecture in Romania and the inscription “150 DE ANI DE INVATAMANT DE ARHITECTURA”.


The silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. They are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 250 coins.

The selling price is lei 330.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.

The silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years of architectural education in Romania is legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj, Iaşi and Timiş.
