Numismatic issue - a coin from the "History of Gold" series - Gold Coins Minted at Histria

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 8 December 2014, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin in the issue titled The History of Gold – Gold Coins Minted at Histria.

The coin has the following technical characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 10
  • Metal: gold
  • Fineness: 999‰
  • Shape: round
  • Diameter: 13.92 mm
  • Weight: 1.224 g
  • Quality: proof
  • Edge: milled

Obverse: the Ionic capital of a column uncovered at Histria, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 Lei”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2014”.

Reverse: types of Histrian gold coins and the inscription “MONEDE DIN AUR BATUTE LA HISTRIA” (Gold Coins Minted at Histria) in an arc.


The gold coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. They are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500 coins.

The selling price is lei 310.00, VAT excluded, per gold coin, including the leaflet.

The gold coins in the issue titled The History of Gold – Gold Coins Minted at Histria are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The gold coins will be put into circulation through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
