Sustainability and green economy

The global agenda is increasingly emphasizing the issue of sustainability and its components: Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). The sustainability assessment of corporations and institutions brings in paradigm shifts, new standards and rules, adjustment of tools and policies as well as both challenges and opportunities for the private sector, authorities, but also for each of us. Climate change is already causing considerable losses, while the transition to a circular economy, together with appropriate public policies in the social sphere, innovation, digitalisation and governance, becomes imperative for the sustainable and equitable development of society.

More information can also be found in the UN ”Who Cares Wins” Report (2005), where the ESG principles were officially outlined for the first time.

At the European level, there are several regulations aimed at carrying out sustainable activities and encouraging green finance and investment.

The research activity of the NBR also includes conducting studies on the implications of climate change on the banking sector in Romania.

This section includes analyses related to the field of sustainability and green economy carried out by other entities, at national and international level.

The NBR supports international efforts in terms of reducing the risks generated by climate change and formulates recommendations specific to the banking field.

The NBR participates in conferences and publishes articles that address topics related to the climate and the development of green economy.
